Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Insulin Resistance Status in Pubertal Girls with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

Introduction: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) patients especially females are at increased risk for developing obesity and resistance to insulin (IR). Rising evidence indicate that insufficient vitamin D levels associated with impaired function of β-cells islets Langerhans IR, however, this finding hasn’t been investigated in CAH. The aim was identify the status pubertal CAH, following up Diabetes Endocrine Metabolism Pediatric Unit, Abou ElRish Children’s Hospital, Cairo University. We also examined association between level & impact cholecalciferol administration on metabolic abnormalities.
 Subjects Methods: Sixteen CAH deficient or Vitamin were recruited. Follow done after a period 6 months during which oral replacement therapy prescribed.
 Results: serum 25-hydroxyvitamin (25(OH)D3) significantly raised therapy. Significant correlation detected HOMA-IR insulin, other IR indices both prior supplementation. However, didn’t correlate any following: 25(OH)D3 levels, 17 hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP), steroid dose either therapy.
 Conclusion: have favorable effects Future research using randomized controlled trials is required examine IR. This might influence production androgen, resulting reduction therapeutic effect glucocorticoids evolution derangements.
